Brazing at Brompton..

Ok, I know it’s been a while, but I’ve finally got round to updating my blog.

In line with Richard Sachs’ advice, I now work at Brompton Bicycle Ltd in Brentford, which is London’s only bicycle factory, and one of only two bike factories in the UK (the other being Pashley).  I work as the repair brazer, and I’d like to be trained up onto production where I’ll learn some serious torch skills.

So, I begin my journey as a wide-eyed “braze-afarian”, on a spiritual quest for that elusive perfect bead..

Anyway, at least I get paid holidays and my own locker.

What else?  Oh yeah, I managed to break my housemate’s 2-year house record by 25 seconds on the 20km time trial circuit at Blenheim Palace.  Thanks to Kevin Steegman at Polytube Cycles for repairing my crashed frame so it could happen:

The pain was worth it, honest!

I finally moved my stuff into the workshop on Webber Street SE1, which I share with Ryan and Alexis.  I still have lots to do to get my area how I want it – the Myford lathe which I rebuilt is finished apart from the motor which is at the motor fixing place.

Our shared workshop on Webber Street.

I’ve decided to push the boat out and reserve a stand at Bespoked 2012, the UK’s handmade bike show in Bristol.  I was coaxed into it by a discount to exhibit in the new builders’ area.

I’ve got an idea for a bike..

Bye for now.

Wow! Dave’s rocking that torch! So fast!

Spooky coincidence but yesterday my girlfriend did the half marathon at Blenheim yesterday. Small world…

Paid holidays, your own locker & the NHS! It really is time to move home.

  3. Hi!

Have you completed a report based on my findings during the US frame building trip?
    Is it available for reading?

I have been following your blog. It was an inspiring experience.
Looking forward to see you bike ideas to realize!
